1. Introduction to Tissues
A group of cells that are similar in structure and/or work together to achieve a particular
function forms a tissue. Plants and animals have different types of tissues because of their
different lifestyles and requirements.
2. Plant Tissues
- Meristematic Tissue: Dividing tissues found in growing regions (Apical,
Lateral, Intercalary).
- Permanent Tissue: Cells that have lost the ability to divide.
- Simple: Parenchyma, Collenchyma, Sclerenchyma.
- Complex: Xylem (conducts water) and Phloem (conducts food).
3. Animal Tissues
- Epithelial: Protective covering (Skin, lining of mouth, etc.).
- Connective: Binds and supports (Blood, Bone, Cartilage, Ligaments,
Tendons).
- Muscular: Responsible for movement (Striated, Smooth, Cardiac).
- Nervous: Transmits stimuli (Neurons).
